This is the second entry of the Retro Read series
If you read the first entry in the Lunchtime Retro Read series, you’d know that I wanted to pursue this hobby after meeting Chris Jericho in October of 2014. There was a problem, though:
How often are autograph signings held?
As it turns out, they’re held pretty damn often. Hell, they’re held pretty much every weekend across the entire United States, especially around the East Coast. I found a list of upcoming signings and one caught my interest: Scott Hall and X-Pac appearing at some store called The Wrestling Universe.
I could get to the Universe fairly easily: a bus into New York Port Authority, a quick trip to Penn Station, and hop on the LIRR to the Auburndale station. The Universe was just a few minutes walk away.
And so I started my first trip to the Wrestling Universe on January 10, 2015. It was a particularly nasty day: freezing cold and raining. I wanted to get in and get out.
When I got to the Universe, though, I saw a gigantic line of people lined up outside the shockingly small store. I waited for close to an hour in the freeze cold rain, doing whatever I could to keep warm.
After what felt like an eternity, it was my turn to meet Hall and ‘Pac. As I entered the room, Hall accidentally spilled a cup of coffee on the table. He looked at me and said, “Sorry man, sometimes I get the shakes” as he jokingly shook his arms. X-Pac ordered him to clean up his mess.
Suddenly, waiting out in the freezing cold rain seemed almost worth it.
Hall signed my new WWE Encyclopedia, Vol. II as Razor Ramon while X-Pac signed both the X-Pac and X-Factor sections, which I thought was so generous of him. They were both great guys.
Our photo didn’t come out so hot but I would get another chance, at this very store.
I left determined to go to the next signing: Eric Bischoff & Bruce Prichard.
